How to Install Your HandiWALL 8' × 4' Slatwall System

This starter kit includes everything needed for the core 8-foot-wide × 4-foot-high HandiWALL installation: four 96" W × 12" H slatwall panels, matching perimeter J-trim, and 100 color-matched 1-5/8" installation screws.

The four panels install horizontally and stack together to create 32 sq. ft. of finished slatwall storage. Once the wall is installed, add and arrange the hooks, baskets, or shelves included with your selected storage package.

1 Measure and Mark the 8' × 4' Installation Area

Select the location for your HandiWALL system and measure an area approximately 96" wide × 48" high. The four included panels are each 96" wide × 12" high and are designed to stack horizontally to create the complete 8' × 4' slatwall section.

Use a level or laser level to establish a straight reference line for the bottom of the installation. Taking time to establish a level starting point is important because each additional panel will stack above the first.

2 Locate and Mark the Wall Studs

Use a stud finder to locate the wall studs throughout the installation area and clearly mark each stud location. The HandiWALL panels should be securely fastened into the wall studs for maximum strength and performance.

When installing over drywall, make sure the included installation screws penetrate the studs behind the drywall.

3 Prepare the Perimeter J-Trim

Your kit includes matching J-trim for all four sides of the 8' × 4' installation. The two 96" pieces are used along the top and bottom, while the two 48" pieces finish the left and right sides.

Measure the installation area carefully before positioning or cutting any trim. The J-trim creates a clean, finished border around the exposed edges of the HandiWALL panels.

4 Install the First HandiWALL Panel

Begin with the bottom 96" panel. Position it within the installation area and use a level to make sure the panel is perfectly straight before fastening it.

Secure the panel into the wall studs using the included color-matched 1-5/8" installation screws. The first panel establishes the alignment for the remaining three rows, so verify that it is level before continuing.

5 Install the Remaining Three Panels

Position the second panel directly above the first and fully engage the panel connection. Check the alignment, then fasten the panel securely into the wall studs.

Repeat the process with the third and fourth panels until all four 96" panels are installed. When complete, the panels will form an approximately 8-foot-wide × 4-foot-high slatwall storage area.

6 Complete the Perimeter Trim

Finish the installation with the included matching J-trim around the exposed perimeter of the slatwall. Check that the trim sits evenly around the panels and that the finished installation is level and secure.

7 Add Your Storage Accessories

Once the HandiWALL panels are securely installed, add the hooks, baskets, or shelves included with your selected storage package.

Position the accessories where they work best for your garage and the items you plan to store. HandiWALL accessories can be moved and rearranged later without changing the wall installation, making it easy to adapt your storage layout as your needs change.

Need to Make the System Narrower?

If your available wall space is less than 8 feet wide, the HandiWALL panels and horizontal J-trim can be cut to fit. Use a circular saw, table saw, or miter saw equipped with a fine-tooth blade.

For the cleanest results, measure carefully before cutting, support the material during the cut, and remove any burrs or debris before installation. Cut each panel to the same finished width so the panel edges remain aligned.

Installing Over Drywall

HandiWALL can be installed directly over drywall. The panels should be fastened through the drywall and securely into the wall studs behind it. Do not rely on the drywall alone to support the storage system.

Installing on Concrete or Masonry

HandiWALL can also be installed on concrete, block, or masonry walls using an appropriate installation method for the wall construction. Furring strips may be used to create a suitable mounting surface before installing the panels.

The included 1-5/8" installation screws are intended for a typical stud-wall installation. Different fasteners or additional materials may be required for concrete, block, masonry, or other wall types.

Weight Capacity and Load Distribution

HandiWALL has a recommended maximum load of up to 100 lbs. per sq. ft. Actual performance depends on proper installation, wall construction, accessory placement, and load distribution.

For heavier items, distribute the load appropriately across the system and use accessories designed for the items being stored.
